Alarming Rise in Global Cancer Incidence. How can we Slow or Stop this?




According to the World Health Organization,
  • In 2012, an estimated 8.2 million cancer-related deaths and approximately 14 million new cancer cases were reported
  • Over the next two decades, the number of new cancer cases is projected to rise by 70.0%
  • Over 60.0% of the world’s total new annual cancer cases occur in Asia, Africa, and South and Central America
  • The most common causes of cancer deaths are cancers of lung – 1.5 mn; liver – 745,000; stomach – 723,000; colorectal – 694,000; and breast – 521,000.

According to the United States National Cancer Institute,
  • An estimated 589,430 cancer-related deaths and 1,658,370 new cases of cancer will be reported in 2015 in the United States alone
  • In 2014, an estimated 1,960 children and adolescents between the ages of 0 and 19 died from cancer while 15,780 were diagnosed with the disease
  • The rate of cancer mortality in the country is 171.2 per 100,000 women and men per year while the rate of cancer incidence is 454.8 per 100,000 women and men in a year
  • An estimated 39.60% women and men in the US will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetime.
